Crucial MX200 500GB SSD Review – Built for Speed, Capacity and Endurance

Price and Where to Buy

The Crucial MX200 SSD series are now available. At the time I published this review, these are their following respective retail prices: $99 for the 250GB, $199.99 for 500GB, $385.99 for the 1TB capacity. The MX200 is backed with a limited 3-year warranty from the manufacturer.

Crucial MX200 500GB Review: Conclusion

The Crucial MX200 SSD series is definitely a worthy successor of the MX100 series. It offers faster read/write speeds, even with lower capacities thanks to Dynamic Write Acceleration technology, superb data protection and is available in different form factors. The drive performed great and as expected whether I installed it on a high end desktop X99 platform, or a dual core-powered notebook. It’s also right about time that Crucial included a caching feature on their utility, the Momentum Cache. Crucial’s competitors have this kind of feature running already for quite some time.

Aside from the increased speed, it is also worthy to mention that Crucial is using high quality NAND chips on their MX200 SSDs. Plus it has a higher endurance rate and they also incorporated power-loss protection, adaptive thermal protection, data encryption, and exclusive data defense, features that you don’t usually see in this price range.

I wouldn’t say that the Crucial MX200 is the fastest SSD in the market, but it definitely doesn’t fall behind in terms of performance and price compared to other SSDs. However, it would be nice to have a longer warranty period and/or lowering the price down to really compete with the likes of Samsung 850 Evo.

Finally, we are very happy with the Crucial MX200 500GB’s performance as it offers excellent speeds, and comes with superb set of features. It’s definitely a good OS drive, whether you are using it on a desktop, and specially if you are using it on a laptop or notebook. If you value price, data protection and reliability, the MX200 is definitely an SSD to consider.
