AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT 3DMark Benchmarks Leaked – Very Close to RTX 4080’s Performance

As we move closer to December 13, the official release day of AMD‘s latest Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT GPUs, leaked benchmarks for the said GPUs started to surface. Recently, VideoCardz posted leaked 3DMark Fire Strike and Time Spy benchmarks of the Radeon RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX. Although synthetic benchmarks do not tell the whole story, they give us a broad idea of how GPUs perform and fare against one another. Based on the leaked 3DMark Time Spy and Fire Strike benchmarks, the RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT’s performance is promising. Check them out below.

3DMark Benchmarks of the Radeon RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX Leaked

Announced in early November, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT are AMD’s latest GPUs based on the new RDNA 3 architecture. According to AMD, these new GPUs will offer up to 54% performance improvement from their predecessor. AMD also stated that the RX 7900 XT(X) will not compete with NVIDIA’s top-of-the-line GeForce RTX 4090. Instead, the RX 7900 XTX will compete with the GeForce RTX 4080.

If AMD’s latest GPUs can perform on par or beat the RTX 4080, this will not look good for the green team. Due to its high price tag, NVIDIA is already struggling to sell the RTX 4080. The RTX 4080 is 70% more expensive than its predecessor, the RTX 3080. Although it performs excellently and significantly faster than its predecessor, its current pricing keeps the RTX 4080 from being attractive to gamers.

AMD has the opportunity here since the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 are priced below the $1,000 mark. For comparison, the RTX 4080 starting price is $1,200. The only question now is the performance of these new GPUs.

VideoCardz got benchmark results, showing the RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 trading blows with the GeForce RTX 4080.

Looking at the graph above, we can see that the RX 7900 XTX is slightly faster than the RTX 4080. The RX 7900 XT trails behind with a tiny 1-2% difference. Based on this graph alone, the RX 7900 XT performs on par with the RTX 4080 in traditional rasterization. Unfortunately, there are no leaked Port Royal or the newer Speed Way benchmark to gauge the performance of the RX 7900 GPUs when it comes to ray tracing.

In 3DMark Time Spy, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT are slower than the RTX 4080. But the difference is only 1 to 2%. If AMD can keep the prices of the RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT below $1,000, I think it would be a win for AMD. Let’s hope custom graphics cards will not be priced as high as an RTX 4080. Otherwise, it will lose its advantage over the RTX 4080.

Other potential issues are supply and scalpers. There were reports that supply could be an issue with these RX 7000 graphics cards on the initial release. And if the performance is that good, scalpers may set their eyes on the RX 7900 XT(X) cards.

Anyway, reviewers already got their hands on the RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT. Sadly, we didn’t get any samples. It’s reported that reviews will go live on December 12, one day before these GPUs hit the market.
