AMD recently announced its latest Ryzen 7000 desktop processors based on Zen 4 architecture and 5nm process node. The AMD Ryzen 9 7950X leads the pack, featuring 16 cores and 32 threads. The rest of the family includes Ryzen 9 7900X, Ryzen 7 7700X, and Ryzen 5 7600X. All of these new CPUs are faster in single-core performance than Intel’s current flagship, the Core i9-12900K, according to AMD. The new Ryzen 7000 CPUs will be available starting September 27, 2022. Check out more details below.
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X Flagship Processor
The Ryzen 9 7950X is AMD’s flagship processor for the new AM5 platform. It features 19 cores and 32 threads, offering a clock speed of 4.5GHz with a boost clock speed of up to 5.7GHz. It features an 80MB cache and a 170W TDP.
Performance-wise, the new 7950X is up to 35% faster than its predecessor, the Ryzen 9 5950X, based on AMD’s testing. As for pricing, the Ryzen 9 7950X comes with an MSRP of $699 USD.
AMD Ryzen 9 7900X – A Cheaper 7950X
Following the Ryzen 9 7950X is the Ryzen 9 7900X. It is a 12-core 24-thread CPU, offering a clock speed of up to 5.6GHz. It has a slightly lower cache size of 76MB but with a similar 170W TDP. The Ryzen 9 7900X comes with an MSRP of $549 and will be available starting September 27 as well.
Ryzen 7 7700X – Will Probably Offers A Good Price to Performance
Interestingly, there’s no “Ryzen 7 7800X” in the current lineup. Instead, there’s a jump from Ryzen 9 7900X down to Ryzen 7 7700X. This is an 8-core 16-thread CPU, with a boost clock speed of up to 5.4GHz. It comes with an MSRP of $399, which is cheaper than the Ryzen 7 5800X’s MSRP at launch ($449).
The Ryzen 7 7700X comes with a 40MB cache and a TDP of 105W, which is noticeably lower than the 7900X. I’m curious if AMD will release a “Ryzen 7800X” or “Ryzen 7800X3D” in the future.
Ryzen 5 7600X – Best Gaming CPU Without Breaking the Bank?
Finally, there is the Ryzen 5 7600X, a 6-core 12-thread processor that offers a boost clock speed of up to 5.3GHz. It has 38MB of cache and a TDP of 105W. This is a $299 processor, and interestingly, it is slightly faster (around ~5% average) than Intel’s flagship Core i9-12900K in gaming.
The Ryzen 5 7600X will probably be popular among gamers who want to build a reasonably-priced gaming PC. The question now is, is the Ryzen 5 7600X faster than the Ryzen 7 5800X3D? And which is the better option, the Ryzen 5800X3D or 7600X? I guess the Ryzen 5800X3D since it has two more cores and four more threads. But we’ll see since the 7600X is based on a new generation architecture.
