Asus STRIX GTX 980 Ti Teased – Featuring All New DirectCU III Cooler Design (Updated)

A few days ago, Asus teased us (via their Facebook pages) with a new graphics card featuring an all new cooler design. We all know (or at least most of us did) that it is going to be the new Asus GTX 980 Ti with a new cooler design. Now that NVIDIA has officially released the new flagship GeForce GTX 980 Ti, Asus has lifted the veil and revealed how the new Asus STRIX GTX 980 Ti will look like. For starters, the new card from Asus will feature the new Asus DirectCU III cooler with a triple fan design. If my guess is right, Asus will also use the new DirectCU III cooler with the upcoming AMD Radeon Fury and Radeon R9 390X graphics cards.

Asus hasn’t revealed the official specs of the Asus STRIX GTX 980 Ti yet, but just wait a few more days. Expect that it will be fully revealed during Computex 2015 where lots of new hardware are expected to be revealed as well.

This is what Asus said on their Facebook pages:

How fast? See for yourself using GPU Tweak II.
How cool? Exclusive new DirectCU III technology cool.
What’s the armor for? Super Alloy Power II Components on a card made by AUTO-EXTREME Technology.
Don’t hear it coming? Nope, the 0dB fan feature is in effect.
ASUS STRIX GTX 980 Ti is the answer you’re looking for.

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti reference model features 2,816 CUDA cores, 96 ROPs, 176 TMUs and 6GB GDDR5 memory running on a 384-bit memory interface. It will also have a base clock speed of 1000MHz and a boost clock speed of 1076MHz, and a memory clock speed of 7012MHz Effective. Based on Asus previous DirectCU II-cooled graphics card, I’m guessing that the new STRIX GTX 980 Ti will have a (slightly) higher base/boost clock speeds, while the memory may or may not come with a factory overclock speeds. Asus’ graphics cards don’t usually come with an aggressive factory overclock settings. But let’s just see once it’s officially launched.

The reference GTX 980 Ti also comes with a DisplayPort 1.2, an HDMI 2.0 and a DVI port. More or less the STRX GTX 980 Ti will also come with the same set of connectivity options. The reference GTX 980 Ti comes with a retail price of $649 UDS, expect that the Asus STRIX GTX 980 Ti will be priced (tad) higher, probably around $675 more or less.
