Audeze LCD-1 Compact Reference Planar Headphone Released – See Features, Specs and Price

Audeze recently released a new reference planar magnetic headphone – the Audeze LCD-1. Not to be confused with the first Audeze LCD-1 head-phone released a decade ago, this one is obviously a new headphone featuring a new design and sound characteristics. And unlike the other LCD series, the LCD-1 will only cost $399 USD; at this point I’m already very curious how this new four-hundred-dollar headphone will sound like. It’s a reference headphone, so I expect it will have a neutral tuning and wide sound stage thanks to its open-back design. We’re still waiting for our unit, and once it arrives, expect that we will publish our review once we have properly evaluated it. For now, check out the rest of its features below.

Audeze releases the new LCD-1 reference audio headphone. It features a compact and lightweight body with a foldable design. The headphone itself is designed and handcrafted in California, USA; and it has been meticulously engineered to provide “unmatched audio” within a compact, travel friendly package that is perfect for professionals and audiophiles alike.

The Audeze LCD-1 features the company’s patented ultra-thin Uniforce diaphragms and Fluxor magnets that provides “powerful sound, unparalleled sonic detail and in-credible accuracy”. Well I’m now excited to hear how the LCD-1 sounds like considering that this is a $400 USD headphone.

We have reviewed the earphone-like Audeze LCDi4; and that headphone also features a “powerful sound, unparalleled sonic detail and incredible accuracy” to my ears. I’m very interested how this one would fare with their flagship lineup.

The LCD-1 also features a 90mm over-ear planar magnetic drivers with an open circumaural design for a transparent, spacious sound stage and stereo imaging. It also has Fazor wave guides that will help produce rich and deep bass without any audible distortion.

Like I mentioned earlier, it has a compact and lightweight design, weighing only 250 grams. But I wonder if it will be comfortable on the top portion of the head and if the clamping force is strong or not. We will find out those soon.

It does feature memory foam and genuine lambskin leather ear pads. I expect this would be comfortable to wear and not irritating to the skin. Package also comes with a 3.5mm premium tangle-free braided cable and a 1/4” adapter.

According to Sankar Thiagasamudram, CEO of Audeze: “With the LCD-1, we’ve created our best sounding headphone in a compact design that’s easy to use and convenient for travel. Whether you’re a veteran sound engineer that quickly needs to check audio with reference quality headphones or an audiophile, you’ll find the portability and sound quality of the LCD-1 to be incredibly versatile.”
