Crucial BX100 500GB SSD Review – A Best Value SSD

Price and Availability

The Crucial BX100 SSD series are now very much available in the US. At the time I published this review the following are the respective retail prices: $69.99 for the 120GB, $99.99 for 250GB, $189.99 for 500GB, and $399.99 for the 1TB capacity. The BX100 is backed with a limited 3-year warranty from the manufacturer.

Crucial BX100 500GB SSD Review: Conclusion

Based on the different benchmark tests, the Crucial BX100 500GB SSD performed very well and remained consistent across the board. Read write speeds were very consistent, whether the files are compressible or incompressible. The budget-friendly BX100 even outperformed, or at least performed on par with the “non-budget friendly” SSDs I have tested before; like the Kingston HyperX Fury SSD, Silicon Power S60, and even the Plextor M6 Pro which were clearly outperformed in terms of sequential read speed.

After the testing and benchmarking, I decided to transfer some of the games I use to benchmark and test graphics cards. I was previously using the WD Re 4TB enterprise-class hard drive before for the game benchmarks. Thanks to the BX100 500GB, I can feel the game loading faster specially when jumping from one mission to another, or when loading a level.

Let me clarify this, SSDs don’t make your games run faster or smoother in terms of frames per second, and they definitely do not improve the visual performance of the game. All those frames per second and graphics quality stuff are still handled and would rely on the graphics card that you have. SSDs are not only good for operating system use, or photo/video editing and content creation, but they are also good for gaming in a sense that they make the games load faster and eliminates lags when a storage drive failed to retrieve a certain data in a certain time frame.

Crucial has been improving their SSD line not just in terms of performance, but also in terms of quality and price. For a price of only $189.99 and the impressive read/write speeds, the BX100 500GB SSD is a real value SSD and is one of the best SSD your money can buy if you are budget conscious. It’s not the fastest SSD on the market, but the BX100 is not about being the fastest SSD. It’s about offering an affordable solution specially to users who wants to ditch their slow, heat generating, noisy and power consuming hard drives.

Finally, I give the Crucial BX100 500GB SSD not only highly recommended award for performing very well, but also the bang for buck award for offering great value and affordable price range.
