List of MSI FreeSync Monitors Compatible with NVIDIA G-Sync

MSI has recently announced that some of their FreeSync monitors are G-Sync compatible. A few weeks ago, NVIDIA announced that they will bring their G-Sync technology and make it work with FreeSync monitors. Provided that users need to install the latest driver (GeForce Driver 417.71), and must be using a GTX 10 series or RTX 20 series graphics card. DisplayPort 1.2 (or above) and Windows 10 is also required for G-Sync to work. However, only 12 FreeSync monitors were (initially) certified by NVIDIA to be fully compatible and working with G-Sync. Thus, MSI has done some internal testing and tested their FreeSync monitors to see if it’s compatible with G-Sync or not. Some of MSI’s FreeSync monitors were not compatible, but majority are. Below is a list of MSI FreeSync monitors that are G-Sync compatible.

Note: All the MSI FreeSync monitors listed above are based on VA panel; have a response time of 1ms (MPRT); supports 16.7 million colors and have anti-glare coating. Unfortunately, none of them are HDR-ready.

G-Sync is, an anti-tearing, anti-flickering and anti-stuttering monitor technology designed by NVIDIA, was once only exclusive to monitors that had passed the NVIDIA certification. With the newest release of NVIDIA GPU driver, NVIDIA now allows G-Sync to be used on monitors that support Adaptive Sync technology when they are connected to an NVIDIA graphics card.

According to NVIDIA they have tested 400 FreeSync monitors but only 12 were (initially) certified to be fully compatible with their G-Sync technology. NVIDIA didn’t detailed how they tested the monitors and what the criteria were. But they did not limit or locked G-Sync technology to the 12 FreeSync monitors that they have certified. Users can manually enable G-Sync with their FreeSync monitor via the control panel.

Several FreeSync monitor owners have confirmed that G-Sync was working for them well, while others have experienced some (varying) issues. This only means that not all Adaptive Sync monitors available on the market are perfectly G-Sync compatible. But some or most of them do.

MSI has not fully detailed how they conducted their internal testing as well. But they did mention that they used the following graphics cards: MSI RTX 2070 Ventus 8G, MSI RTX 2080 Ventus 8G and MSI GTX 1080 Gaming 8G.

MSI also added that only a single display is currently supported. Multiple monitors can be connected but no more than one display should have G-SYNC Compatible enabled.
