Today the NDA for the new GTX 1080 has lifted and we have seen the first wave of GTX 1080 reviews. There is no doubt that the GTX 1080 is the new king and shines specially in 1440p and 4K gaming. Aside from the GTX 1080 reviews, the specifications of its little brother, the GeForce GTX 1070 was also revealed. Basically, the GeForce GTX 1070 is a trimmed down version of the GTX 1080 also featuring the latest technology based on Pascal architecture, but could still possibly be on par or faster than the GTX 980 Ti and TITAN X.
UPDATE: Base and boost clock speeds updated and confirmed.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Specifications Revealed
Like the GTX 1080, the GeForce GTX 1070 is also based on the new GP104 Pascal silicon, utilizing the 16nm FinFet process. The GPU features 7.2 billion transistors and dubbed as GP104-200-A1 ASIC. It has 1920 CUDA Cores, 15 out of 20 streaming multiprocessors enabled on the GP104 silicon. It will also have 64 ROPs and 120 TMUs.
The GeForce GTX 1070 will also have an 8GB of memory, but it will be using GDDR5 running on a 256-bit memory interface, instead of the faster GDDR5X used on the GTX 1080. It will have a 6.75 TFLOPs single-precision floating point performance and a maximum GPU boost frequency of 1600MHz.
It will also use a single 8-pin PCIe power connector and only has 150W of TDP. But expect that AIB partners with their customized GTX 1070 versions will most likely feature an 8+6pin power connector. For display outputs the GTX 1070 has 2x DisplayPort 1.4, 1x HDMI 2.0b. It also supports the new 2-way SLI HB bridge support.
By the way regarding SLI, NVIDIA is actually discouraging the 3 and 4-way SLI configuration. They recommend that the new GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 be used up to 2-way SLI configuration only. BUT this does not mean that the new graphics card is not capable of 3/4-way SLI. It is still capable but you will need a special code/script to unlock this feature. You can watch the video below after this article for more details.
