Most PC enthusiasts and gamers are waiting for NVIDIA to release the highly anticipated GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics card. It was originally rumored to be released early this year, but it didn’t happen. Latest rumors suggest that NVIDIA will release the RTX 3080 Ti sometime in April, or perhaps mid to late April. So, if you are waiting for NVIDIA to release the RTX 3080 Ti, here’s what we know so far.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Specifications
Several rumors were surrounding the RTX 3080 Ti. But the latest one, according to @kopite7kimi, the RTX 3080 Ti will feature 12GB of GDDR6X memory. The clock speed of the said memory is reported to be 19Gbps with 864 GB/s of bandwidth, running on a 384-bit memory interface. It was originally rumored to have 20GB of GDDR6X memory. In comparison, the RTX 3090 has 24GB of GDDR6X memory.
Also, the RTX 3080 Ti is reported to use a GA102-250 GPU chip and will feature 10240 CUDA cores. That’s 1536 more cores from the RTX 3080, but only 256 fewer cores from the RTX 3090. The clock speeds are still unknown at this point. So, it could perform on par or close to the RTX 3090, depending on the clock speeds and board power.
I don’t think NVIDIA will make the RTX 3080 Ti run or perform faster than the RTX 3090. After all, “3090” sits on top of the product stack. Not unless NVIDIA plans to pull another “TITAN X -> GTX 1080 Ti -> Titan Xp”, like what happened a few years ago.
RTX 3080 Ti Not For Miners?
In addition to the information above, it looks like NVIDIA plans to nerf the ETH mining performance of the RTX 3080 Ti as well. Similar to what they did to the RTX 3060. Unfortunately, miners have already bypassed the limitation by using an HDMI dummy plug to trick the GPU.
I’m not sure how exactly they did it, or the process; but miners already found a way to circumvent the restriction. I wouldn’t be surprised if miners would also bypass the restriction that NVIDIA will enforce on the RTX 3080 Ti.
GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Price and Release Date
Based on rumors, NVIDIA plans to release the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti next month, April 2021. There’s no exact date yet but some are expecting that it would be mid-April.
As for pricing, the RTX 3090 has a starting MSRP of $1,499. While the RTX 3080 starts at $699. NVIDIA may price the RTX 3080 Ti somewhere in between. Perhaps it will be priced at $999. But considering the current situation, expect to see the RTX 3080 Ti sell double or triple their value.
