Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 Ti Mini Graphics Card Review

Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 Ti Mini – Overclocking

Overclocking the GTX 1070 Ti Mini is quite easy. You can use Zotac’s FireStorm graphics card utility or download the MSI Afterburner and simply bump up the CPU clock speeds, memory speeds, power limit and temperature limit. I was able to add 220MHz on the clock speed, resulting in 1827MHz base and 1903MHz~2063MHz boost. For the memory, I added 420MHz resulting to a final memory clock speed of 2212MHz.

Check our article here and see how you can overclock the GeForce GTX 1070 (Ti).

Overclocking the Zotac GTX 1070 Ti Mini would obviously increase its heat output as well. At almost 2100MHz, temperatures can get up to 76° Celsius with a fan speed of 65% or around 2000 RPM. At 65% of fan speed, I find the graphics card to be silent but a little bit audible (depending on your setup). I think, despite its size, the GTX 1070 Ti Mini’s cooler is very capable at keeping the GPU’s temperature at bay.

Noise and heat wasn’t my problem with this specific unit we got here; it was the coil whine noise. When I overclocked the graphics card, the coil whine noise became more audible and it’s actually more audible than the fan noise. Coil whine has been an issue with the GeForce GTX 10 series, regardless of brand or model. Sometimes you get a unit that produces coil whine and sometimes you don’t.

I only tested the overclocked performance with four game titles since I was using their built-in game benchmark for consistency. The results of the overclocked performance for the synthetic benchmarks are already reflected on the Synthetic Benchmark Result page.

Anyway, below are the results I got with an overclocked Zotac GTX 1070 Ti Mini:

Based on the results I got, I was able to squeeze out more performance from the graphics card just by overclocking the Zotac GTX 1070 Ti Mini. It was able to perform almost or on par with the GTX 1080. That’s one reason why NVIDIA prevented AIB partners from selling factory overclocked GTX 1070 Ti, because it would perform on par with a reference GTX 1080, at a lower price; thus cannibalizing the sales of the GTX 1080.

Let’s proceed to the next page and conclude this review.
