Zotac SONIX 480GB PCIe NVMe SSD Review

Zotac Sonix – Test Setup

Zotac Sonix 480GB NVMe SSD Review-16

In testing the Zotac Sonix 480GB PCIe NVMe SSD, I am using a Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 7 motherboard powered with an Intel Core i7-6700K. The CPU is set to run at its default stock speed. Below are the rest of the system specifications:

Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64bit
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 7
Processor: Intel Core i7-6700K
CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X61
Memory: Klevv Cras DDR4-3000 16GB
Graphics card: Zotac GeForce GTX 980 Ti AMP! Edition
Storage Drives: Zotac Sonix 480GB, WD Black 6TB
Power Supply: Seasonic 1050W Platinum
Chassis: DimasTech Bench Table Easy V3.0

Note: The benchmark results below are the results I got during my tests using the specific sample Zotac sent. Performance may vary from one capacity to another and from one system to another. You may or may not get the same exact results shown in this review. During my tests, each result does not remain at a constant or fix read/write speeds. The results below are not cherry picked as well. But the results are the more constant numbers I got while running the same benchmark several times.

Zotac Sonix 480GB Benchmark Results

Sonix Real World Performance

First off, here’s how fast the Zotac Sonix can go in real world copy. I copied my entire Desktop folder from one SSD to Sonix. You can see how the copying went from the screenshot below. It was really fast, 78.2GB of mixed data took only less than a minute to copy, with speeds reaching 1.19GB/s++.

As you can see from the results above, the Zotac Sonix has a very fast read access time of only 0.02 ms and a seriously fast read speed averaging 2,700MB/s.

Sonix – SiSoft Storage Benchmark Result

I don’t usually use SiSoft storage benchmark, but just to get some graphs and additional data, below are the result from read performance with 4K blocks write performance, and sequential write performance.
