NordVPN is excited to announce that a new certification program run by the Internet of Secure Things Alliance (ioXt) has tested and certified its mobile app for Android. The ioXt Compliance Program now includes a new mobile application profile with added requirements for virtual private network (VPN) applications and is said to bring transparency and visibility to consumer and enterprise buyers as well as to advance security in the internet of things (IoT) industry as a whole.

According to Vykintas Maknickas, a Product Strategist at NordVPN:
“NordVPN is happy to take part in ioXt’s new program. We believe that the approach the Alliance is taking will lead to a more private, transparent, and secure digital environment,”. “The goal to launch a straightforward and easy-to-follow compliance mechanism that covers almost every aspect of internet-connected devices is ambitious. However, if adopted by the mainstream, it will create a new concept — a distinguishable market built around secure things and services, ranging from VPN software to a lightbulb, which will greatly benefit consumers and businesses alike.”

The new standard applies to any cloud-connected service, including VPN, IoT, and social or productivity apps. All applications submitted through the certification portal get rigorously tested at scale by identifying and mitigating potential security risks.

“Consumers count on their VPN to protect their data and identity. The ioXt Alliance certification program provides the confidence and transparency needed for consumers to make informed decisions when picking a VPN,” says Brad Ree, ioXt Alliance CTO.

This new security standard for mobile apps, which is aligned with the initiatives set forth by the VPN Trust Initiative, was developed by over 20 industry stakeholders like Google and Amazon together with some certified labs, such as Dekra and NCC Group, which collaborated with automated mobile app security testing vendors like NowSecure.
