For those waiting for Asus’ latest gaming laptops powered with the AMD’s latest Zen 2 Ryzen 4000 CPU, the wait is finally over. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 (2020) is now available to order, featuring AMD’s Ryzen 7 4800HS mobile CPU. There’s also a Zephyrus G15 variant that will be powered by the Ryzen 9 4900HS but it looks like it will be available on a later date. The Zephyrus G15 is the more premium lineup compared to the also new Asus TUF Gaming A15. If you are in the market for the latest gaming laptops, check out more details on the ROG Zephyrus G15 below.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 with AMD Ryzen 4000 Series CPU Hits the Market
There are two main variant of the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15; the GA502IV and GA502IU. The difference is that the GA502IV is powered by an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 discrete GPU; while the GA502IU is powered with a GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. For now, let’s focus on the GA502IV-XS76 and GA502IU-ES76 variants, since both models are already available in the market.
The Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 sports a stylish and sleek black color scheme. It has a slim body design, similar to what the Razer Blade gaming laptops offer. It’s only ~19.9mm thick and weighs around 2.1kg. It measures 360mm in width, 252mm in depth, and 19.9mm in height. The G15 features a 15.6” IPS-type display with a 1920×1080 full HD resolution. However, depending on the SKU (or variant) they differ on the CPU, GPU and display features.
For instance, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 GA502IV-XS76 is powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 4800HS paired with 16GB DDR4-3200MHz memory. Its graphics is powered by an NVIDIA RTX 2060 6GB GDDR6 GPU with raytracing capabilities. The display on this model has a 240Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time, 100% sRGB and Pantone validated.
On the other hand, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 GA502IU-ES76 is also powered by the Ryzen 7 4800HS CPU. But the GPU is only a GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB GDDR6 (for mobile), with no raytracing capabilities. On top of that, the display is capable of only 144Hz refresh rate. Although, expect that this one will be the cheaper variant and I don’t think it’s a bad configuration. The GTX 1660 Ti GPU can handle a 1080p resolution comfortably.
As for storage capacity, both the ROG Zephyrus G15 variant comes with a 1TB PCIe Gen3.0 NVMe M.2 SSD for storage. 1TB is a decent capacity size and since it’s an NVMe SSD, expect fast transfer speeds and a responsive desktop operation. Although, I am not sure if there is an extra M.2 slot for storage expansion. I hope there is since, 1TB may not be enough if you plan to install a lot of games, or store large files, on this gaming laptop.
The ROG Zephyrus G15 features a “desktop-inspired” keyboard layout with white back-lighting. It also features N-key rollover and “Overstroke” technology. It has a 2-speaker setup with Smart AMP technology, offering louder volume and delivering more bass. But it is a laptop, so don’t expect much. There is an array of microphones as well, but this gaming laptop does not have a webcam. You will have to purchase an external camera if ever you need to make video calls.
As for connectivity options, the ROG Zephyrus G15 has Intel Wi-Fi 6 with Gig+ performance (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.0. For wired connections, it has USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C with DisplayPort 1.4 and power delivery; USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A; HDMI 2.0b; 3.5mm headphone and mic combo; RJ-45 and a Kensington lock.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 Pricing and Availability
Both the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 GA502IV-XS76 and GA502IU-ES76 are already listed on Amazon. The higher-end model GA502IV-XS76 doesn’t have a price yet at the time I wrote this article. However, the GA502IU-ES76 is currently retailing for $1,299. Expect that the GA502IV-XS76 will be priced higher than the GA502IU-ES76, since the former is powered by an RTX 2060 graphics card.
