The PCIe 5.0 M.2 SSD bandwagon is seeing more companies joining. We recently reviewed Gigabyte’s Aorus Gen5 12000; unfortunately, it fell short of 12,000MB/s as it was only the 1TB capacity with a slightly slower speed than the 2TB capacity. Corsair has now announced its latest MP700 PRO PCIe 5.0 M.2 SSD, boasting speeds of up to 12,400MB/s. Their specifications appear very similar on paper, and the components used inside likely are the same: a Phison PS5026-E26 controller and Micron’s 232-layer TLC NAND flash chips. Corsair’s MP700 PRO is available in three variants: SSD only, SSD with a water block, and SSD with a heatsink featuring a mini fan for an active cooling solution. While I’m still awaiting our MP700 PRO, I hope its fan doesn’t turn out to be as whiny or loud as the one in ADATA’s Legend 970. More details are provided below.
UPDATE: Check out our Corsair MP700 Pro 2TB SSD review and find out how this Gen5 SSD performs.
Corsair launches MP700 PRO PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 SSDs Offering Phenomenal PCIe Gen5 SSD Performance
Corsair has unveiled the MP700 PRO, their latest and fastest PCIe Gen5 M.2 SSD. With capacities reaching up to 4TB and three cooling options, the MP700 PRO marks a new benchmark in next-gen storage. Boasting impressive sequential read and write speeds of 12,400MB/sec and 11,800MB/sec, respectively, it stands out as a notable upgrade, delivering up to 75% faster performance than PCIe 4.0 SSDs.
In addition to its impressive sequential throughput, the MP700 PRO excels in random read and write performance, reaching up to 1.5 million read and 1.6 million write input/output operations per second (IOPS). This sets it apart from other PCIe Gen 4 drives. The MP700 PRO is backward compatible with PCIe 4.0 motherboards, ensuring a lasting upgrade for years. With native support for Microsoft® DirectStorage, you can maximize performance in the latest games, and tasks like file copying in Windows and application loading feel exceptionally fast.
The MP700 PRO is designed in the industry-standard M.2 2280 form factor, making it easily installable on desktop motherboards for broad compatibility. The MP700 PRO benefits from additional cooling, often provided by the integrated M.2 cooling on the user’s motherboard to achieve its best performance. For those seeking advanced cooling options, the MP700 PRO has a stylish, fully-assembled Air Cooler, guaranteeing optimal performance by keeping the drive cool during operation.
The MP700 PRO Hydro X Series version has a pre-assembled water block seamlessly integrating into your custom cooling loop. This ensures top-notch cooling and performance, minimizing throughput throttling. The water block is compatible with standard 1/4″ fittings, adhering to the high standards associated with Corsair custom cooling hardware.
Like all Corsair SSDs, the MP700 PRO comes with the free Corsair SSD Toolbox software, offering useful features like secure erase and firmware updates directly from your desktop. Backed by a five-year warranty for added peace of mind regarding the durability and speed of your storage, the MP700 utilizes PCIe Gen5 technology, setting a new benchmark for M.2 performance.
