The GeForce RTX 2070 is NVIDIA’s upper mid-range graphics card, offering significant performance improvement from its predecessor (the GTX 1070) and features real-time ray tracing and DLSS as well. In terms of performance, the RTX 2070 is generally faster than a GTX 1080 and AMD’s Vega 64. Its performance is actually in between a GTX 1080 and a GTX 1080 Ti, and most of the time nearing the GTX 1080 Ti’s performance. This makes the RTX 2070 a great graphics card for 1440p gaming. It’s also a good pair for those who own or plans to buy a 1080p or 1440p high refresh rate monitor. Well, not so for 4K gaming as we still recommend that you get at least an RTX 2080 or RTX 2080 Ti for 4K gaming. Currently, there are a lot of GeForce RTX 2070 in the market aside from NVIDIA’s very own GeForce RTX 2070 Founders Edition. The Founders Edition comes with an MSRP of $599 USD, but reference RTX 2070 cards from partners starts at $499 USD. Of course, expect that most RTX 2070, especially the better variants, are priced around $550-$600 USD (or more) at this point in time. So out of the many RTX 2070 in the market, what’s the best RTX 2070 you can buy? Below is a table comparing the different RTX 2070 graphics cards available. If you are in the market looking for one, check out the list and our recommendations below.

The GeForce RTX 2070 is based on a TU106 GPU chip, NVIDIA’s latest Turing architecture. It’s a different chip from the RTX 2080 (Ti) in a sense that there are no disabled cores or SMs. It’s the RTX 2060 that is using a modified TU106 chip with disabled SMs. It features 2304 CUDA cores with a base clock speed of 1410MHz and a boost clock speed starting 1620 MHz (reference). It comes with 8GB of GDDR6 memory with a memory speed of 14Gbps, a memory bandwidth of 448 GB/s running on a 256-bit memory interface.
It does come with all the features found on the RTX 2080 (Ti), like real-time ray tracing, DLSS, G-Sync, GPU Boost 4.0 and many more. An RTX 2070 has a rated TDP starting 175W for the reference model and 185W for the Founders Edition and other factory overclocked RTX 2070 variants. It requires a single 8-pin PCIE power connector and at least a 550W power supply (PSU).
Like I mentioned earlier, the GeForce RTX 2070 is best for 1080 to 1440p gaming. You can pair this graphics card with a high refresh rate monitor as well. Generally speaking, the RTX 2070 is faster than the previous gen’s GTX 1080 and AMD’s Vega 64 graphics cards. Its performance is actually near a reference GTX 1080 Ti, depending on the game. So if you are coming from a GTX 1070 or lower, the performance difference can be noticeable and somewhat significant.
Basically speaking, all the RTX 2070 in the market regardless of the brand, design or who manufactured it are all built with the same TU106 GPU chip inside from NVIDIA. They all have the same core specifications like number of CUDA cores and memory size and speed. The main difference will be in temperature that may (also) affect the maximum (sustained) boost clock speeds; the design of the graphics card; the size, aesthetics and additional lighting, and finally their respective prices. Some will be more expensive than the other, but doesn’t necessarily mean that it is (significantly) faster. So these are the things that one may consider in getting an RTX 2070. Below are some frequently asked questions:
FAQ: What RTX 2070 has the best cooler and great cooling performance?
Basically, the beefier the cooler is, the better the cooling solution on the graphics card. For this, the tri-fan cards would be ideal, like the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 Aorus Xtreme, EVGA RTX 2070 FTW3 Ultra or MSI RTX 2070 Duke OC. Some dual fans like the NVIDIA RTX 2070 Founders Edition, EVGA RTX 2070 XC Ultra Gaming and MSI RTX 2070 Gaming (X/Z) are great as well.
FAQ: What RTX 2070 is the fastest out of the box?
Out of the box, the fastest RTX 2070 are usually the ones with the highest boost clock speed; they usually came with custom PCB and are factory-overclocked. You can see a number of RTX 2070 graphics card above having a boost clock speed of 1815 MHz and above. However, at some point most of these RTX 2070 will likely perform similar due to NVIDIA’ GPU Boost. Not to mention, you can always easily overclock these graphics cards to bump up the clock speeds. Just don’t do it on a blower type or mini graphics card as it will throttle due to heat.
FAQ: Is it worth it to buy an expensive RTX 2070?
Well it depends, it’s a little bit subjective but not if you want an objective answer. Unless you’re after the design of the card or the brand, an EVGA RTX 2070 Black Gaming or Zotac RTX 2070 AMP Extreme Core are already good. You can also (manually) overclock these cards a bit. If you’re after a great looking RTX 2070, a card that screams “GAMING” or has RGB on it, then you might consider the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 Aorus (Xtreme) or the MSI GeForce RTX 2070 Gaming Z. Looks is a matter of personal preference already, including brand.
FAQ: So what’s the best RTX 2070 for my Gaming PC?
There is no single answer for that actually because it may also depend on the chassis or case you are (or will be) using. Each system or build is different and it may require a different graphics card design or cooling solution. This means that the best RTX 2070 graphics card for one person’s system may not be the best for your system’s setup. For instance, if you have a rig or is building a small form factor system, then you might want to consider the RTX 2070 ITX variants. The ones with smaller body, like the Zotac RTX 2070 Mini, Gigabyte RTX 2070 Mini ITX and MSI RTX 2070 Aero ITX. These graphics cards would (easily) fit given the limited space.
If your system has limited cooling or limited air intake and exhaust, then you might want to get an RTX 2070 with a blower type design. This way all heat will be exhausted at the back, outside the chassis. Note that blower type design are usually limited when it comes to cooling performance. So it’s not an ideal card if you plan to overclock it. If you want something cool and quite, better consider an RTX 2070 with dual to triple fan design. But it would require that you have a (well) ventilated system since hot air will mostly be blown sideways or in any direction. And if you want RGB, then you can check out the list above and see which one has RGB lighting.
I hope this article helped you one way or another in choosing the best RTX 2070 graphics card for you. You might be expecting a one straight answer, but it’s actually not that simple. Also, I am aware that there are other brands that were not included in this list; like from Galax, Palit, Gainward, and Inno3D. I decided not to include them since they are usually not available in the US. I’ll try to update the list whenever a new RTX 2070 variant becomes available.
Please don’t forget to share this article with your friends if you find it useful and helpful. Also check out our GeForce RTX 2060 Compared article. If you are gaming at 4K UHD or you simply want the fastest gaming graphics card out there; then the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is the way to go.
wait for navi… rtx is a fking overpriced and overhyped piece of sh!t
