These Are The Only Best RTX 4080 SUPER Cards Worth Your Money

Right of the bat, I’m going to tell you this. The only RTX 4080 Super graphics card, or the only graphics card in general, that is worth your money, are the graphics cards that are selling at their MSRP or better yet discounted. You shouldn’t buy an RTX 4080 Super, or even an RTX 4080, priced over $1,200 since it would defeat the purpose of the RTX 4080 Super in the first place.

While the RTX 4080 Super’s specifications are slightly better than the RTX 4080, it’s not actually substantially faster or near the performance of an RTX 4090. In our review of the RTX 4080 Super Expert, we found that an RTX 4080 Super performs similarly to an RTX 4080, effectively making the RTX 4080 Super and the RTX 4080 similar in performance. The only real difference is the price. That’s why the current retail price is important, and you should never buy an RTX 4080 Super that is selling above its MSRP.

In this article, I hand-pick some RTX 4080 SUPER cards selling at their respective retail prices. Since these are custom-designed graphics cards, they’re slightly more expensive than NVIDIA’s starting price of $999. Most of these cards are currently selling for $1,099; anything (substantially) above that is not worth your money.

How Fast Is the RTX 4080 SUPER?

As mentioned, NVIDIA’s “new” GeForce RTX 4080 Super performs similarly to the RTX 4080 (vanilla). Sometimes, it’s around 1% to 5% faster than the RTX 4080, and there were scenarios where the RTX 4080 Super was slightly slower than the RTX 4080. Well, this will come down to the different graphics card designs.

Best RTX 4080 Super Cards In General

At the time of writing this round-up, the RTX 4080 Super cards were selling for about $1,000 to $1,100. If their prices exceed $1,200 when you land here, especially from third-party retailers, you should skip them as they are not worth it.

ZOTAC GeForce RTX 4080 Super AMP Extreme AIRO

Zotac’s graphics cards are usually the cheaper options in the market. However, despite being “cheap”, the Zotac RTX 4080 Super AMP Extreme Airo is the company’s flagship model. It features Zotac’s IceStorm 2.0 advanced cooling solution, with air optimized design and active fan control.

While its front cooler shroud is made of plastic, its backplate is a metal diecast with a nice-looking Spectra 2.0 RGB lighting effect that curves on its front-side portion. Its boost clock speed is 2610MHz out of the box and features a dual BIOS for peace of mind.

Zotac’s RTX 4080 Super AMP Extreme Airo runs really cool and silent, thanks to its thick aluminum heat sink and triple-fan design. I guess the only downsides to this graphics card are its plastic shroud and large size or footprint.

GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4080 Super Gaming OC

Next is the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4080 Super Gaming OC. This graphics card is somewhat similar to Zotac’s card in the sense that it features a large heatsink design and a triple-fan cooling solution. It also has a plastic front cooler shroud, while its back plate is metal. Out of the box, it features a 2595MHz boost clock speed, slightly slower than Zotac’s, and only a 40MHz overclock from the reference design.

Gigabyte’s RTX 4080 Super Gaming OC features an alternating spin setup for its fans, where the middle fan spins in the opposite direction. It also features 9 composite core heat pipes and a large copper plate for cooling the GPU. RGB lighting on this graphics card is minimal, as the lighting effect is limited to the “ring” of the fans and the Gigabyte logo.

Generally speaking, this is a good, solid graphics card design. However, it’s not as aesthetically pleasing compared to the other graphics cards in this list.

ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4080 Super OC Edition

If you want an industrial or rugged-looking graphics card, Asus’ TUF RTX 4080 Super OC graphics card would fit that description. Aside from the ROG Strix model, TUF graphics cards are usually reliable and built to last. It also runs extremely silent, features axial-tech fans with an alternate spinning fan setup, and has a metal exoskeleton design that makes the graphics card pretty solid, like a tank.

Out of the box, it has a boost clock speed of 2610MHz, but it can be slightly increased to 2640MHz via OC mode. While this graphics card is almost void of any RGB lighting, I think its metal front shroud and back plate are what make this graphics card an excellent choice. It really feels solid and premium on hand. Not to mention, Asus uses high-quality components in this graphics card.

MSI GeForce RTX 4080 Super Expert

MSI’s latest Expert series model is reminiscent of NVIDIA’s Founders Edition graphics card. If you like the flow-through design or want a unique-looking graphics card, the GeForce RTX 4080 Super Expert is a good choice. Our review showed that it feels premium and solid on hand, runs silently, and performs as expected.

Its factory overclock speed is 2610MHz out of the box. However, this graphics card does not feature a dual BIOS, and while it performs well, something like the SUPRIM X variant may outperform the Expert series.

Best Premium RTX 4080 Super Cards

While the graphics cards mentioned above are priced close to NVIDIA’s starting price, the following graphics cards are on the premium side. This means that you will be paying more for the design and aesthetics of the graphics card. These are the best RTX 4080 Super cards with a premium price tag attached to them, usually around the $1,200 to $1,300 range. So, only consider these cards if you are after the aesthetics and have the extra.

MSI GeForce RTX 4080 Super 16G SUPRIM X

The SUPRIM X model is MSI’s flagship or top-of-the-line graphics card. It simply screams premium, both in aesthetics and performance. We have already reviewed two SUPRIM X graphics cards, the RTX 4080 SUPRIM X and RTX 4090 SUPRIM X. All I can say is this is an excellent graphics card overall.

It features an almost all-metal body, with patterns and details that add to its aesthetics. Its Tri Frozr 3S cooling solution is top-notch, running silently even at full load. It also features a decent amount of RGB lightning, although out of the box, the default is white color.

The RTX 4080 Super Suprim X features a 2640MHz factory overclock speed out of the box. It has a dual BIOS feature, but I mostly set it to Gaming mode. I guess the only downside I can find with this graphics card is its size. It is big and heavy, and you will need some room inside your PC’s case.

ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4080 Super White OC

If you are looking for a white graphics card, the Asus ROG Strix RTX 4080 Super White OC is your best option. Similar to MSI’s SUPRIM X graphics card, the ROG Strix is Asus’ top-of-the-line and flagship model. Unlike the TUF model, the ROG Strix has a more gamer vibe to it. It features some eye-catching RGB lighting towards the rear end of the card.

Its cooling performance is also excellent, with three axial-tech fans and a patented vapor chamber for better heat exchange and lower GPU temperature. The ROG Strix front shroud, backplate, and frame are all high-quality diecast metal, giving it a sturdy and solid body.

Out of the box, the ROG Strix RTX 4080 Super OC Edition features a 2640MHz boost clock speed and can be slightly overclocked to 2670MHz via OC mode. I don’t find any cons about this graphics card, except for its price tag. The ROG Strix model has always been one of the more expensive graphics card models in the market.

RTX 4080 Super or RX 7900 XTX?

After reading all about the best RTX 4080 Super cards listed above, but you still have doubts about whether you should get an RTX 4080 Super or AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XTX, you can check out our comparison of these two GPUs here.

TL;DR, both the RTX 4080 Super and RX 7900 XTX performed similarly in 1440p and 4K benchmark results. Of course, if the game favors AMD GPUs, like Call of Duty, the RX 7900 XTX tends to outperform the RTX 4080 Super. However, if the game tends to favor NVIDIA GPUs, like Cyberpunk 2077 or The Witcher III, expect that the RTX 4080 Super is the faster one.

This doesn’t account for ray tracing yet. While the RX 7900 XTX is capable of ray tracing, and AMD has its own upscaling technology, NVIDIA GPUs are much better for games with ray tracing. Even NVIDIA’s upscaling technology, DLSS, has a better quality than FSR. At least, that’s the situation today. Hopefully, AMD will be able to catch up, and their technology will improve as well.
