Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 RTX 4080 Gaming Laptop Now Available

First debuted at CES 2023, Lenovo‘s new Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 gaming laptops are now available. A 13th gen Intel Core HX-series CPU and NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 40 series laptop GPU powers the new Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 gaming laptops. It also features a 16-inch 2560×1600 IPS display with a refresh rate of 240Hz. It also sports the latest connectivity options like WiFi 6E and Thunderbolt 4. Lenovo also installed a couple of “tricks” on their latest laptop – the Lenovo AI Engine+ and ColdFront 5.0. The Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 is now available on Amazon.com here or directly from Lenovo.com here. You can learn more about its features and details below.

Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 16″ Gaming Laptop with 13th Gen Intel and RTX 40 series Laptop GPU Unleashed

Lenovo’s 16-inch Legion Pro 7i gaming laptop is powered by the latest 13th gen Intel Core i9-13900HX processor and NVIDIA’ RTX 4080 laptop GPU (175W). There are other variants to the Legion Pro 7i with a Core i7 and/or RTX 4090/70 laptop GPU.

The Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 is a gaming laptop; thus, it features a Legion TrueStrike RGB keyboard. The RGB lighting on the keyboard is customizable. Despite the RGBs, the outer aesthetic of the laptop is not that aggressive. Instead, the outside looks clean and neat. Its body is a CNC all-aluminum with an Onyx Grey colorway. The Legion Pro 7i comes in at 21.95mm (.86″) and 2.8kg (6.17lbs), so it’s still capable of being taken on the go.

Lenovo ColdFront 5.0 Cooling Technology

These top-tier internals can run harder for longer thanks to Lenovo Legion’s ColdFront 5.0 with Hybrid Thermals, with an extra-wide Vapor Chamber that covers both CPU and GPU on NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 Laptop GPUs, or a dedicated CPU vapor chamber with hybrid heat piping for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPUs. CPUs are kept cool with a liquid metal infusion, which means zero throttling, while heat is expelled through the massive exhaust vents on the rear and sides of the chassis, totaling out to 235W of TDP. The Lenovo LA AI chip that powers Lenovo AI Engine+ pushes performance even farther, maximizing frames-per-second for an incredible gaming experience.

Lenovo AI Engine+

The Lenovo Legion AI Engine+ is a system of hardware, software, firmware, and driver support that intelligently identifies when a game launches and optimizes the system’s performance to provide the highest FPS. The Legion Pro 7i is equipped with Lenovo’s LA2-Q AI chip that powers a software-based machine learning tool that monitors in-game frame rates and adjusts the system fans and power distribution to target the highest possible performance. AI Engine can be enabled in the Lenovo Vantage app.

AI is the buzzword nowadays, and it seems every product has “AI”. Do note that AI is just a marketing term and does not mean it comes with true Artificial Intelligence.

Display and Battery

The Legion Pro i7 also features Lenovo’s PureSight Gaming Display with 16:10 WQXGA 2560×1600 display that supports up to a 240Hz variable refresh rate. The display also features 500 nits of brightness and Dolby Vision. In addition, the display is calibrated from the factory with X-Rite’s Pantone certification.

The Legion Pro 7i is packed with the largest battery legally allowed in a laptop at 99.9 watt-hours. Additionally, its Super Rapid Charge technology brings you back to 70% battery charge with just a 30-minute charge. The Legion Pro 7i can also be charged using an, up to 135W, USB-C charger via a port on the rear of the device when set to Hybrid mode.
