NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Specs, Price and Release Date, What To Expect

NVIDIA’s next-generation flagship gaming GPU is said to be the GeForce RTX 5090, based on NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture. Its predecessor and the current flagship GPU, the RTX 4090, is already almost two years old. It was launched in October 2022, so a successor is expected to be released soon. Several rumors and leaks about the upcoming flagship GPU have already surfaced, giving us an idea of what to expect from NVIDIA’s next flagship GPU.

NVIDIA RTX 5090 Rumored Specs Surfaced

According to rumors, the RTX 5090 will use NVIDIA’s GB202 chip, which features 24,576 CUDA cores, 192 RT cores, 768 Tensor cores, and 192 Streaming Multiprocessors. It will have a boost clock speed of 2.9GHz, an L2 cache of 128MB, and a memory bandwidth of 1,532GB/s. For comparison, the current flagship RTX 4090 only has 16,384 CUDA cores, 128 RT cores, 512 Tensor cores, and 128 SMs.

None of these rumored RTX 5090 specs are confirmed yet. The only sure thing is that it will use NVIDIA’s next-gen Blackwell architecture. NVIDIA already announced Blackwell last March, so we know it is the next-generation architecture.

Unfortunately, there are no rumors yet regarding the RTX 5090 memory capacity. If the RTX 4090 has 24GB of GDDR6X memory, perhaps the RTX 5090 may also have 24GB of memory.

How fast the RTX 5090 will be compared to the RTX 4090 remains unknown. We can only guess that it could be up to 50% faster, more or less. Perhaps the performance increase would depend not solely on raw performance but on AI.

Speaking of AI, expect the RTX 50 series to have “AI-related” features in one form or another. But I hope path tracing performance will improve significantly, and gamers can play games with ray tracing enabled even without the help of DLSS upscaling technology.

GeForce RTX 5090 Release Date

Until today, the best RTX 4090 cards remain the fastest consumer-grade gaming GPU in the market. Even the newly released RTX 4080 Super or AMD’s flagship RX 7900 XTX doesn’t come close. According to a famous leaker, kopite7kimi, the RTX 5080 should be the first GPU to be released this year, followed by the RTX 5090.

Rumors initially suggest that the RTX 5090 will be the only GPU launched and released this year, and the rest of the RTX 50 series GPUs will be released in 2025. However, according to kopite7kimi, the RTX 5080 will be released first, but he did not say that the RTX 5090 will be released next year instead of this year.

If you remember, in the case of the RTX 40 series, the flagship RTX 4090 was the first RTX 40 series GPU released, followed by the RTX 4080. Perhaps NVIDIA plans to release the RTX 5080 first rather than the RTX 5090 this time. As for when exactly, NVIDIA may release these new RTX 50 series GPUs by Q4 of 2024. Some are already speculating that NVIDIA will announce or reveal them at Computex this coming June 2024.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Pricing

There are no rumors or leaked information yet about pricing. Even NVIDIA’s AIC partners don’t know how much these new GPUs will cost, and the pricing information will only be revealed to them at the very last minute.

Since the RTX 4090 launched at $1,699, the RTX 5090 could launch at the same MSRP. If the market is bad, expect an increase in the starting price. However, I would like NVIDIA to lower the starting price for its flagship GPU this time.
