Samsung T5 EVO Portable SSD Now Available, Up to 8TB Capacity

Samsung recently introduced the Samsung T5 EVO Portable SSD, a small, pocketable, and portable SSD. Unlike most portable SSDs in the market, the T5 EVO doesn’t claim the title of the fastest. In fact, its speed is comparable to that of a Samsung SATA SSD, providing sequential speeds of up to 460MB/s only. Nonetheless, it outpaces an external hard disk drive, particularly in random workloads. On the flip side, it is available in capacities up to 8TB. You can order one now from Amazon here. Check out more details and features below.

Samsung Releases T7 EVO Portable SSD

Samsung Electronics America has introduced the T5 EVO, a lightweight and portable Solid State Drive (SSD) offering up to 8 terabytes (TB) of capacity, the largest currently available on the USB portable SSD market. Ideal for those transitioning from hard disk drives (HDDs) to SSDs, the T5 EVO combines high capacity with solid speeds in a compact and durable design, catering to users storing and accessing files, photos, videos, and more.

The T5 EVO joins Samsung’s award-winning portable SSD portfolio, presenting another option for high-capacity storage alongside the T7 Shield, designed for extreme durability, and the T9, tailored for professional use. As the Samsung portable SSD with the largest storage capacity, the T5 EVO enhances the external HDD experience by providing improved speed and reliability. Based on USB 3.2 Gen 1, it can transfer data up to 3.8 times faster than external HDDs, facilitating efficient large file transfers.

Jose Hernandez, Senior Director of Memory Product Marketing at Samsung:
“It’s reported that over 1 trillion photos are taken worldwide every year – with an average of 2,000 photos on smartphones alone. That means more people than ever need increased storage capacity options to preserve their favorite memories, videos, and content,”. “The T5 EVO provides the perfect solution – with an even higher capacity of 8TB, which helps ensure you no longer need to erase old pictures from your device to save new ones. Plus, the drive’s portable design helps you take your data anywhere with you, instead of being tethered to your desk setup.”

External HDDs traditionally suffer from slow transfer speeds and a higher risk of data loss due to mechanical issues. Leveraging Samsung V-NAND flash technology and electronic components, the T5 EVO offers faster file access speeds, addresses noise and heat concerns, and enables direct editing of large-capacity files on the device.

Enhanced portability and ergonomic design

The T5 EVO retains the compact design of Samsung’s Portable SSD portfolio but introduces a new slender rectangle body, a departure from the business card design. Weighing just 3.6 ounces and measuring 3.74 inches in length and 1.57 inches in width, the drive fits in the palm of your hand and offers the same capacity as an external HDD with faster speeds.

In a black color with a titan gray ring, the T5 EVO has a premium and sleek appearance that complements various setups and host devices. Its metal ring allows easy attachment to any bag or luggage. Additionally, the metal body and rubberized surface enhance protection against drops of up to six and a half feet, ensuring your files survive bumps and bruises in your daily life.

Stores millions of photos and songs with speed and ease

Despite its compact size, the T5 EVO boasts the largest data capacity in the Samsung portable SSD lineup, reaching up to 8TB. With this ample storage, the T5 EVO proves versatile for work and play, accommodating large files, videos, photos, and games. For instance, an 8TB T5 EVO can store over 2 million 3.5-megabyte (MB) photos, 1.8 million 4MB music files, or 3,500 2-gigabyte (GB) videos.

When it comes to transferring files between devices, the T5 EVO excels with sequential read and write speeds of up to 460 megabytes per second (MB/s), providing sustained performance twice as fast as competing SATA-based portable SSDs.
