Google’s Newest Phones – Meet The Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8

Google’s newest smartphones are the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, created with AI at their core to enhance user experiences. These phones come with innovative features driven by Google Tensor G3 technology. These phones will also get seven years of software updates, including Android OS upgrades, security updates, and regular Feature Drops.

New Display and Temperature Sensor

Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are elegantly designed with softer silhouettes, beautiful metal finishes, and recycled materials.

The Pixel 8, notably smaller than its predecessor, the Pixel 7, boasts a comfortable grip with its contoured edges. Its 6.2-inch Actua display offers enhanced real-world clarity, delivering a 42% brighter viewing experience than the Pixel 7. The Pixel 8 further showcases satin metal finishes and a polished glass back, available in color options like Rose, Hazel, and Obsidian.

The Pixel 8 Pro features a 6.7-inch Super Actua display, known for its exceptional brightness. This ensures that your Ultra HDR images appear true to life even in direct sunlight. The phone sports a matte glass back, complemented by a polished aluminum frame, and is available in three color options: Porcelain, Bay, and Obsidian.

One notable addition to the Pixel 8 Pro is a temperature sensor located on the rear. This sensor enables quick temperature scans of objects, making it handy for tasks like checking if a pan is adequately heated for cooking or ensuring the milk in a baby’s bottle is at the right temperature. Furthermore, an application has been submitted to the FDA to enable the Pixel’s Thermometer App to record and save body temperature data to Fitbit, offering potential health monitoring benefits.

Better Camera System – Pro Controls for Pixel 8 Pro

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are equipped with enhanced camera systems that deliver impressive photo and video quality, along with noteworthy editing capabilities.

Several improvements have been made to the camera system on the Pixel 8 Pro. The main camera, for instance, excels in capturing high-quality photos and videos, particularly in low-light conditions. The larger ultrawide lens enhances Macro Focus capabilities, while the telephoto lens captures significantly more light and produces optical-quality 10x photos. Additionally, the front-facing camera now boasts autofocus for superior selfie shots compared to previous Pixel models.

The camera app has been redesigned for a more user-friendly experience, making it easier to access and utilize your preferred photo and video modes. Notably, the Pixel 8 Pro offers Pro Controls, allowing users to exercise greater creative control over the Pixel Camera, including adjustments to settings like shutter speed, ISO, and the ability to capture 50 MP photos across the zoom range, among other options.

As for the Pixel 8, it features the same updated primary camera and introduces a new ultrawide lens with Macro Focus functionality. But it doesn’t have the Pro Controls that the Pixel 8 Pro has.

Best Take, Magic Editor and More

Many of us have experienced a typical scenario of having a group photo where someone isn’t looking at the camera. “Best Take” addresses this issue by utilizing the photos you have already captured to recreate your intended image. This is achieved through an on-device algorithm that combines multiple shots to ensure everyone appears at their best in the final image.

Google Photos introduces the “Magic Editor,” an experimental editing tool harnessing generative AI to align your photos with the intended essence of the moment you aimed to capture. With this tool, you can effortlessly adjust subject positioning, resize elements, or apply presets to enhance the background, all through a simple and intuitive interface.

In addition, there’s the “Audio Magic Eraser” feature, designed to minimize unwanted noise in your videos, such as gusty winds or noisy crowds. This innovative audio function leverages advanced machine learning models to categorize sounds into separate layers, granting you control over their volume levels—an unprecedented capability in computational audio processing.

In the upcoming months, the Pixel 8 Pro is set to receive a feature known as “Video Boost.” This feature combines Tensor G3 technology with robust data processing capabilities to enhance your video content significantly. It adjusts factors like color, lighting, and stabilization and reduces graininess, resulting in videos that closely resemble real-life scenes. Additionally, Video Boost will introduce Night Sight Video functionality to the Pixel, enhancing the quality of smartphone videos taken in low-light conditions.

Pixel 8 Can “Summarize” A Web Page

Now, your Pixel device offers enhanced web browsing capabilities, including a “Summarize” feature that generates concise summaries of webpages, enabling you to grasp key points quickly. Additionally, your Pixel can read web content aloud and provide translations, making it convenient for on-the-go article consumption.

Pixel has also improved its ability to understand natural human speech patterns, allowing for more fluid interactions. It patiently waits for pauses and “ums” before responding and supports voice-based typing, editing, and messaging across multiple languages.

Furthermore, with upgraded AI, the Call Screen feature now aids in reducing spam calls by an average of 50%. It answers calls from unknown numbers with a more natural voice, distinguishing between calls you desire and those you don’t. Soon, Call Screen will even offer context-based replies for simple calls like appointment confirmations, eliminating the need to answer such calls manually.

7 Years of Software Support and Improve Security

Google Tensor G3 collaborates with the Titan M2 security chip to fortify the protection of your personal data and bolster your Pixel’s defenses against advanced security threats. Additionally, Face Unlock on the Pixel 8 has attained the highest Android biometric classification, enabling access to compatible banking and payment applications such as Google Wallet.

Pixel devices offer a unique experience, including ongoing enhancements that ensure your phone continues to improve. For the first time, Google is providing seven years of software support for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. This includes OS upgrades, security updates, and regular Feature Drops.
