NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4070 Ti Super, RTX 4070 Super Specs, Price, Performance Leaks And Rumors

These past several weeks, rumors about NVIDIA‘s upcoming RTX 40 Super series of graphics cards are popping up left and right. According to these rumors or leaks, NVIDIA will release an RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4070 Ti Super, and RTX 4070 Super early next year. These new RTX 40 Super GPUs are based on the same Ada Lovelace architecture and are refreshed variants offering a slight performance bump from their predecessors. These new Super cards are said to outperform their AMD GPU counterpart definitively. More details below.

NVIDIA RTX 40 super series leaks and rumors

What Has “Leaked” So Far About NVIDIA’s RTX 40 Super Series

At first, the idea of NVIDIA releasing Super variants seems off since NVIDIA didn’t release any Super cards during the RTX 30 series. The last time NVIDIA released a Super card was during the RTX 20 series. We reviewed some of these cards, like the RTX 2080 Super FE, RTX 2070 Super, and RTX 2060 Super.

If these leaks and rumors are correct, we may not see NVIDIA releasing its (also rumored) RTX 5000 series based on a new NVIDIA Blackwell architecture soon. NVIDIA is likely releasing these RTX 40 Super as a stopgap before they release the next-gen RTX 50 series GPU later next year.

So, what do we know about the upcoming RTX 40 Super series GPUs based on the leaks and rumors floating around so far?

GeForce RTX 4080 Super

According to rumors, the GeForce RTX 4080 Super will feature an AD103 chip, the same chip used by the current RTX 4080. It will have 10240 CUDA cores, a measly ~5% increase in core count vs the RTX 4080’s 9728. It will also have 16GB GDDR6X running on a 256-bit memory interface and will still use the 16-pin 12VHPWR connector. If I have to guess, perhaps NVIDIA will now use a newer or better connector to avoid any burning issues with the 12VHPWR connector.

Regarding its performance, I don’t expect much. Based on recent rumors, the RTX 4080 Super will only offer up to 9% performance improvement from the RTX 4080. I was expecting more since there’s quite a performance gap between the current RTX 4080 and the RTX 4090. Before these rumors came out, I hoped that if an “RTX 4080 Super” or “RTX 4080 Ti” would be released, it would offer around 15% to 20% performance improvement.

Rumors also suggest that the RTX 4080 Super would be priced at $1,199 or $999. However, I’m guessing NVIDIA will price the RTX 4080 at around $1200 and will discount the current RTX 4080 to around $1000. I doubt they will price it higher than $1,200 if their initial goal is to beat AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XTX with the RTX 4080 Super.

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super

Up next is the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super, which sounds like a weird name to me. It has the “Ti” extension to it, and then they added “Super”. This will only make PNY’s graphics card name even longer. Anyway, the rumored RTX 4070 Ti Super will also use an AD103 chip and feature 8448 CUA cores, a 10% increase from its predecessor.

It will also have a 285W TDP, 256-bit memory interface, and a 21 or 22Gbps GDDR6X memory speed. According to rumors, the RTX 4070 Ti Super will be around 15% to 20% faster than the RTX 4070. It will also have an MSRP of $799 to $849. The RTX 4070 Ti Super aims to crush the RTX 7900 XT.

Based on our RTX 4070 Ti vs RTX 4080 comparison, the RTX 4080 is around 20% to 30% faster than the RTX 4070 Ti, depending on the game or scenario. I don’t think the RTX 4070 Ti Super will be any faster or on par with the current RTX 4080. It may perform closely, about 5% to 10% slower than the RTX 4080. I’m guessing here, but there’s no way an RTX 4070 Ti Super will outperform the RTX 4080 based on their segment or product naming alone.

GeForce RTX 4070 Super

Finally, NVIDIA is rumored to release an RTX 4070 Super featuring an AD104 chip. It will have 7168 CUDA cores, about 22% more than the RTX 4070‘s 5888 CUDA cores. That’s a substantial increase in core count and is just 520 CUDA cores fewer than the current RTX 4070 Ti.

It is also rumored to have 220W TDP, a 192-bit memory interface, and 21Gbps of GDDR6X memory speed. If its core count is near that of the RTX 4070 Ti, I’m guessing that the RTX 4070 Super will be at a spitting distance in performance from the current RTX 4070 Ti. An overclocked RTX 4070 Super may probably perform on par with a stock RTX 4070 Ti. Again, I’m just guessing based on the leaked/rumored specs.

As for its pricing, the RTX 4070 Super is rumored to have a retail price of $599 to $649. It will also compete against AMD’s RX 7900 GRE.

Whether or not these new RTX 40 Super series cards will have a Founders Edition variant remains to be seen. But if I have to guess, maybe the RTX 4070 Super and RTX 4080 Super will have a Founders Edition variant.

NVIDIA RTX 40 Super Series Release Date

Finally, these RTX 40 Super series cards are rumored to be announced at CES 2024 and will be available shortly after the announcement.
